2024 Klondike Derby

THE 2024 KLONDIKE DERBY
JOURNEY THROUGH THE
YUKON
MARCH 1st– 3rd
CUB ADVENTURE CAMP
$15 YOUTH | $10 ADULTS
The tradition of a youth led Klondike Derby continues with Journey Through the Yukon brought to you by Troop 2860-G from Arrohattoc District, the winners of the 2023 Derby. Everything from the event theme and patch design to every single activity station is designed and planned by Scouts so you know your youth will have a blast. Let your adult leaders relax around the campfire while host Troop 2860-G and their team take your Scouts on the adventure of a lifetime and crown a brand new Klondike Derby Winner.
2024 Updates:
1. Registration will be by sled team. Each sled team should be manned by four to eight scouts. The system is set to a default of four scouts, and you may add additional scouts up to the maximum of eight. Please remember that if your troop only has one sled, you are welcome to have a “sled team” register as a team and participate using backpacks as part of the Backpacking Class (formerly called the Procrastination Class).
2. If you have scouts not participating on a sled team, please register them as Non-Sled Team Youth.
3. We are altering the course layout to allow for more camping areas so troops won’t be as crowded this year. Personal fire pits, even above ground varieties, are still forbidden on camp property but the new camping areas have permanent fire rings for troops to use.
4. Coffee will be available in the Navas Lodge Dining Hall for adult leaders.
For those new to the concept, the Klondike Derby is a race to complete activities in multiple “towns” where teams test their Scout skills and leadership abilities to earn “gold.” Each team of four to eight transports the gear necessary to complete the different stations on a homemade sled they pull around the course. Earned “gold” is then spent in the Gold Nugget Auction at the end of the day. The theme and activities change from year to year to keep it fresh.
We will continue to offer the Procrastination Class, now called the Backpacking Class, for those who want to attend but don’t have the time or ability to build a sled. Your team can divide up the gear list and backpack it or use a commercially available wheeled cart/wagon to compete. This is awesome for new troops, troops with only one sled, and last-minute signups.
The $15 youth and $10 adult registration cost covers the event patch, keepsake wristband, camping for two nights, and all activities. Units supply and cook their own food for the weekend. Potable water is available onsite.
The event is limited to 24 teams so register today!
