Where:  HOVC Camp TBS STEM Center

Cost:  $200 NO WALK-INS

Participants must be 14 and older.

Presented by Outdoor Safety LLC, this training provides Wilderness and Remote First Aid along with Adult CPR/AED Skills to prepare participants to recognize and respond to medical emergencies in outdoor and remote environments. The course is designed for outdoor enthusiasts, volunteers, staff, and individuals whose activities or workplaces may be located away from immediate emergency medical services. Certification is provided through the American Red Cross.

The course is hosted by the Heart of Virginia Council (HOVC) and is conducted over two days, with instruction held Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Training is delivered during daytime hours only. While there is no overnight instruction, lodging options may be available depending on the host site. Participants should bring their own lunch, snacks, and any personal items needed for a full day of training.

This course uses a blended learning format that includes a required online component. The online coursework must be completed prior to the in-person sessions and will take approximately 1–3 hours to finish. Access to the online learning will be emailed to registered participants one week prior to the course start date and requires internet access with audio and video capability.

In-person sessions emphasize hands-on skill practice, realistic scenarios, and group learning to build confidence in providing care when help may be delayed.

Successful completion of this course results in American Red Cross certification in Wilderness and Remote First Aid and Adult CPR/AED. This course does not include Pediatric CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) and is not intended for healthcare providers or professional rescuers. However, it meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.151(b) requirements, which apply to most workplace first aid and CPR training needs.
