Great Valley District's Pinewood Derby

Event will be held at Virginia Museum of Transportation at 303 Norfolk Ave SW, Roanoke. On Saturday, April 26th. 

Early check-in is at 8:30 am, doors open at 9am and races start at 9:30 am. All participants will need to register beforehand for the discounts. Top 3 winners for each pack's den will receive an invite and free admission to race in the Great Valley's District Derby. All youth who plan to race or attend are $5 (ages 3-17). Adults are $10 and youth 2 and under are free. Adult race category is available. Museum closes at 4pm.

Race Categories

6 - Scout Speed Categories – The racers for these categories are of the top 3 racers from each of their Den. They will race other units from the same Den level to determine the top racers. One race Category for each of the Den’s: Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and Arrow of Light. If youth started out this year as Arrow of Light but has since crossed over to a Scout Troop, they can still qualify to race if their Derby Car is from the “Current Cub Scout Year”.

Grand Prix Scout Speed – All the first-place winners from each of the Dens from the previous Scout Speed Categories, will race against each other to find the top fastest cars in the District.

Open Class Racing – For any sibling or friend who is not yet a registered Cub Scout or scout who didn't qualify for Scout Speed Categories by being one of the top 3 in their Den.

Outlaw Race – All adults, older scouts or other racers can join in and test their Derby Car against others for the ultimate glory of who made the fastest vehicle. Not all race rules will apply to this category and are appropriately marked below. Appropriate Sportsmanlike behavior is expected. Destruction or discouragement of other racers and their vehicles will not be tolerated. Kids are watching!

Best in Show – This is not a race category but of all the Derby Cars registered at each of the Den levels, Friendly Racers and Outlaw Race, will be judged on appearance following certain metrics and graded by points.
