Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) [3R]

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right. Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders with the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, Leaders should feel comfortable enough with the skills learned, to coach and guide the older Scouts, so that the older scouts can teach the basic skills required to the younger scouts so as they can obtain the First-Class rank.

Every participant should bring writing materials and individual camping equipment as listed in the Scouts BSA Handbook. Please eat breakfast on Saturday before arriving. Lunch and dinner on Saturday along with breakfast and lunch on Sunday will be provided.

Leaders participating in other Pipsco activities will camp and eat some meals with their units. Be sure to register as Camporee Participant. Training will start Saturday directly after morning colors in Kawanis. Additional information will be provided at the Friday leaders’ meeting in Camp Kawanis. Information will also be provided to the Burton Center in Camp Lions.

If you are interested in arriving Friday night and not attending with your unit, please indicate that by selecting the arrival date Camp Kawanis Friday Night Solo Camper. PLEASE NOTE THAT BREAKFAST IS NOT PROVIDED, Coffee with be available.

You will need to bring Annual Medical Health Record parts A&B along with proof you have completed SCO_800 Hazardous Weather.

Along with Scoutmaster Specific, this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scout Troops to be considered “trained”.
