2022 Three Rivers Merit Badge University

Event Details

*New* Two session of Citizenship in Nation have been added.

The Three Rivers District invites you to Merit Badge University at Deep Creek Baptist. This is a great opportunity for Scouts to gain new skills and earn merit badges (some of which are not typically offered at summer camps).

This event is open to all registered Scouts BSA, Venturers, and  Sea Scouts. Units with volunteering merit badge counselors will receive an access code to register through January 15. After January 15, registration access will open to all.

 

Date: Saturday, February 12, 2022 

Registration closes February 6th or when sold out.

Time: 8:00am - Check-in 

          8:30 am – Opening Ceremony 

          8:45 to 11:45 am – Session 1 

         11:45 to 12:30 pm – Lunch break 

         12:30 to 3:30 pm – Session 2 

          3:30 pm – Clean up and departure 

Location: Deep Creek Baptist Church, 250 Mill Creek Pkwy, Chesapeake, VA 23323 

Cost: $7 per Scout (Merit Badges may have an additional fee for materials) 

$5 Lunch – Pizza and can soda (Tickets sold at check-in – please bring cash) 

Note: In order to complete the badges, each Scout must complete the prerequisites for the badge before attending the session. 

Registration: Scoutingevent.com/596-3RMBU22 This event is limited to Scouts BSA and Venturing or Sea Scouts that require merit badges for advancement. This is not a Cub Scout event. 

NOTE: Units that provided Merit Badge Counselors for this event will be provided the Passcode for first opportunity to register their unit’s Scouts January 3rd through 16th, then registration will open to all other Scouts. Registration closes February 6th or when sold out. 

There will be NO WALK-INS as Registration is required! 

Refunds: There are NO refunds. The cost to process a refund exceeds the event fee. 

COVID-19: Please do not attend if you have been feeling ill, or if someone in your household is ill, or is awaiting test results due to contact, or is in quarantine. If you are 12 years of age or older and have been vaccinated, then face-masks may or may not be required, depending on CDC guidelines at that time. At the writing of this guide, if you are 12 years of age or older and not vaccinated, then face-masks are required. We encourage 6 feet physical distancing and washing of hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer. 

Lunch Options: You may bring your own lunch. There is no refrigeration provided. 

OR - You may purchase Pizza lunch for $5 cash at check-in. 

Merit Badge Counselors: We will accept additional Counselors to volunteer until December 15th. At this time the schedule will be set and published. Please contact one of the event chairs. This will increase the opportunities for our Scouts. 

Unit Leaders / Parents / Drivers: You are welcome to stay and provide additional two-deep leadership. Please be respectful of the MBC’s lesson plan. If you have information that might enhance the session, please communicate with the MBC during a break. If an issue arises at the event, please contact one of the event chairs. 

MB Prerequisites: The Merit Badge Chart has a list of requirements that the Counselors are asking to have done prior to the start of the session. Often times, these items are the basis for the balance of what will be covered during the in-person session. To show work that is accomplished, bring a Blue Card with initialed items, bring the item, chart, document that you did, bring something signed by your Scoutmaster, or bring a picture of what you did. When requirements are not complete, the Scout will leave with a Partial. Scouts may get contact information and arrange future sessions with the MBC. 

Uniforms: Unless otherwise noted, Scouts need to arrive in Field Uniform, often referred to as Class A. 

Adult Leader Training Opportunity: There will be training opportunities that are listed here in the schedule. NOTE: Registration for these courses are on a separate link Scoutingevent.com/596 Please share this information with your new unit leaders. 

Adult Leader / Parent session hosted by Bill James, Three Rivers Advancement Chair: 

Bill will present updates on Advancement requirements, Eagle requirement updates, and the newest Merit Badge, Citizenship in Society. There is no Fee, but we would like to know who plans to join us. Please register adults through this event and select the “Class”. Join Bill at 9 am in the gym / cafeteria
