Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS)

The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the online Scoutmaster Position Specific Training and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors and assess their progress toward First Class.

Skills covered are Outdoor Ethics, Backpacking and Hiking, Woods Tools Use and Care, Fire Building, various styles of Cooking, Ropes, Knots, Lashings, Plant and Animal Identification, Finding your Way, Map and Compass, Flag Ceremonies, Interfaith Worship, and Campfire.

Bring your own backpack, tent, mess kit, and field chair.  You can bring camping equipment in addition to the backpack.

This IOLS training consist of approximately a total of 10-12 hours of instructional time divided between Saturday and Sunday.  Full attendance at all modules is necessary for course credit.  

Course will take place co-located with CVC NYLT and tenting will be in the adult staff area for the CVC NYLT course. Backpack lunch provided by IOLS Staff. Other meals provided by NYLT Cook Staff.
