Frontiers Camp

Event Details

Frontiers Camp is a unique and very popular BSA resident summer camp experience, presented once each summer for Scouts, BSA registered youth (male and female) at the Mount Norris Scout Reservation located in Eden Mills, Vermont.

For eight days and seven nights, scouts are immersed in the activities of American Frontiersmen of the early-1800s. This is a one-of-a-kind adventure and experience that develops self-reliance, team-work, and moral and ethical judgment, while incorporating the values of the Scout Oath and Law, as well as frontier skills and a rendezvous lifestyle.

We are a provisional camp so any registered Scouts BSA youth can attend, with or without others from their respective Scouting unit. We provide an all-volunteer staff in excess of 60 registered Scouts and Scouters, who are well-trained and possess over 500 years of Frontiers Camp experience, either as a camper or leader. All merit badge and rank instruction is provided by adult staff.

Daily activities for our campers include a structured merit badge program, Vermont hunter safety programs (including rifle and bow hunter education programs), BSA rank advancement, frontiersman projects, traditional BSA skills, history and stories, historically accurate rendezvous contests of physical skill such as log rolling and tomahawk throwing, numerous crafts, active games, exciting campfires, great meals, and much, much more.

The Frontiers Camp program includes four different programs based on years of attendance:

  • All new scouts to Frontiers camp enter our Woodsmen program. This first year program is capped at 60 youth, and has an age cap of 16 years old. Scouts who have attained the age of 17 at the time of camp are not eligible for our first year program. Additionally, a first year camper at Frontiers Camp must have attended a resident summer camp experience prior to attending Frontiers Camp. Exceptions to this requirement will be reviewed by the Camp Director on a case-by-case basis after discussion with a parent and the scout receiving Scoutmaster approval. Please email the camp director at frontierscampvt@gmail.com if an exception is being sought.

  • Scouts returning to Frontiers Camp will then select our Skinners program (year 2), Trappers Program (year 3) or Voyageur program (year 4). Each program year has various tracks or options for the Scout to select at the time of registration.

Frontiers Camp is a participating camp in our Green Mountain Council’s Character Co-Op program, which provides yearlong benefits to its members.
