2025 Wilderness First Aid Course

Wilderness First Aid
Camp James Ray
Participant Type: Youth and adults attending High Adventure Camps
(See description for details)
Registration closes May 1 at 11:00 p.m.
The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Training is a 16-hour, hands-on course to give adult leaders the experience needed to handle illness and injury when medical care is more than an hour away. When paired with CPR/AED certifications, leaders are well prepared to deal with emergencies and routine medical issues that may occur on an outdoor adventure.
You must be a currently registered member of Scouting America to participate in this training.
Most of the BSA high-adventure bases (HAB) require at least one person per trek to be current in WFA. Beginning in 2025, Philmont REQUIRES 3 WFA trained adults over 21 beginning. Of course, having more participants trained in WFA skills is highly recommended for any high adventure or backcountry experience.
This course runs over two weekends. You must attend both courses to earn the Wilderness First Aid certification. There are two weekends to choose from for the classroom portion and everyone must attend the May 18 practical. Each session must attend their assigned practical session.
