Overview:

If you are looking to become a certified Red Cross Lifeguard, you’ve come to the right place! Circle Ten uses the American Red Cross curriculum to certify and train individuals as American Red Cross Lifeguards. All of our instructors are trained and certified American Red Cross instructors.  

The course is fast paced and hands on. This course takes place over a single weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. 

If the participant is a youth accompanied by a parent, then the parent will need to stay until the prerequisite skills tests are successfully completed. If the participant cannot pass the prerequisites (in water portion), then the participant cannot continue with the course.

• Lifeguard Training Fall Course: September 13 - 15, 2024
• Lifeguard Recertification Training Spring Course: May 3 - 5, 2024

Event Details:

• Check-in starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday
• The course will wrap up and end on Sunday evening
• Registration will close at 11:00 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the course start day.
  There are no walk-ins and no additions after the close date.
• Location: Camp Wisdom, 6400 Red Bird Ln., Dallas, TX 75236
• Meals: Participants must bring their own food. Saturday pizza is available for $5 per person (purchase during registration)

Lifeguard Course Cost:

• Youth Participant (non-summer staff): $180
• Adult Participant (non-summer staff): $180
• Summer Camp Staff: $100
  This is for all summer camp staff wishing to be certified as a lifeguard and want to take this course. It is password protected and you will need to get the password from your Camp Director and/or Jamel Holmes (jamel.holmes@scouting.org)
• Cancellations: all cancellations must follow the Cancellation and Refund Policy (see attachments) 

Lifeguard Recertification Course Cost:

• Youth Participant (non-summer staff): $75
• Adult Participant (non-summer staff): $75
• Summer Camp Staff: $65
  This is only for all summer camp staff wishing to be recertified as a lifeguard and want to take this course. It is password protected and you will need to get the password from your Camp Director and/or Jamel Holmes (jamel.holmes@scouting.org)
• Cancellations: all cancellations must follow the Cancellation and Refund Policy (see attachments)

• Youth Participant (non-summer staff): $120
• Adult Participant (non-summer staff): $120
• Summer Camp Staff: $85
  This is only for all summer camp staff wishing to be certified as a lifeguard and want to take this course. It is password protected and you will need to get the password from your Camp Director and/or Jamel Holmes (jamel.holmes@scouting.org)
• Cancellations: all cancellations must follow the Cancellation and Refund Policy (see attachments) 
• All participants must be at least 17 years of age.
• If not currently a Red Cross lifeguard and want to take the Instructor course you must have an alternative Instructor card in lifeguarding i.e Ellis, YMCA, or Starguard, etc.
• Must bring your own hip pack and whistle 
• Bring a laptop or tablet or any other internet accessing device other than a phone (optional) 

Required Information:

• First and Last Name 
• Medical form A&B, if staying at camp overnight
• Emergency Contact Name, Cell Phone
• Current Lifeguard certification, if being recertified 

Documentation Required at Check-in: 

• A & B Health forms (if staying the night) 
• Current Lifeguard certification, if recertifying 

Additional Information: 

•  Lifeguard Training: All participants must be at least 15 years of age to take the Lifeguard Training course.
• Lifeguard Instructor Training: All participants must be at least 17 years of age to take the Lifeguard Instructor Training course.
• Food is not provided. All participants will need to bring their own food and snacks for training. There will be a break time for participants to leave camp to grab food.
• Pizza will be available for dinner on Saturday night, if interested. This must be prepurchased during registration.
• To satisfy Youth Protection Guidelines, an adult must remain on site overnight if they have a youth planning on staying overnight for the training. If the youth is female, then the adult must also be a female.
• Tent camping is optional and free of charge.
• If you wish to stay in a dorm room (optional) it will cost $50 for the weekend (additional fee) and is based on availability.  

 Class Time Schedule:

• Friday: 6:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
• Sunday: 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
• Times may change depending on class size and how quickly requirements are done

Skills Prerequisite: Swim Tread Swim Sequence

• 150-yard swim non-stop swim using freestyle or breaststroke with the face in the water (goggles are encouraged)
• Tread water for two minutes with the hands in the armpits (treading using the legs only)
• Swim 50-yards non-stop, swim using freestyle or breaststroke with the face in the water (goggles are encouraged)
• Swim 20 yards, retrieve a ten-pound brick from 8 feet deep water and swim back to the starting point keeping both hands on the brick in 1 minute and 40 seconds (goggles are not allowed)
