Horsemanship Merit Badge classes are only available for Scouts BSA and Venturing Crews (youth only) and are offered on select Saturdays.  Limited to 24 attendees per class.  This is a day long class and will result in a completed Horsemanship Merit Badge. Please see the sign up section for available dates. The Horsemanship Merit Badge fee is $85 per In-Council Scout and $95 per Out-of-Council Scout.

Beyond the Badge classes: Have you completed the Horsemanship Merit Badge? Would you like to hone your skills a bit more? Well, it’s time to sign up for our new program, Beyond the Badge!  The Beyond the Badge program allows scouts to pick up right where they left off, back in the saddle. This program is riding focused. Once our scouts have learned the basics from the merit badge, they will get a chance to learn what horses can really do. This program focuses on riders gaining confidence in the saddle while also learning what it takes to become a true horseman/horsewoman. You will walk, trot, lope, learn your leads, and how to conduct yourself from the saddle.  You will learn how to be a partner with your horse and together will accomplish tasks that would be seen on any working ranch across the country.  So saddle up and get ready to go Beyond the Badge!  Limited to 12 riders with a maximum number of 4 adults permitted per class.  This is a day long class.  The Beyond the Badge fee is $100 per In-Council participant and $110 per Out-of-Council participant.

Class Requirements/Information for Beyond the Badge:

  • Completion of the Horsemanship Merit Badge is a requirement for taking this course.  Youth participants MUST bring printed proof of completion of the Horsemanship Merit Badge with them.
  • The Beyond the Badge program is an intense, advanced riding course.  Anyone who struggled to complete the Horsemanship Merit Badge, or any other equine activity, due to fear, or lack of interest should NOT participate in this class!  This program focuses on riders gaining confidence in the saddle.  You will walk, trot, lope, learn your leads, and how to conduct yourself from the saddle.  You will learn how to be a partner with your horse and together will accomplish tasks that would be seen on any working ranch across the country.
  • This is considered a Trade School program.  As such it is HIGHLY recommended for anyone interested in working as a Wrangler during Summer Camp and/or Winter Camp.
  • Participation in this course will require you to listen to and follow all directions given by the instructors REGARDLESS OF YOUR SKILL LEVEL AND/OR PAST EXPERIENCE.  Failure to follow all directions will result in your expulsion from the course.
  • The Beyond the Badge Acknowledgement must be completed for each participant and brought with you.
  • The Beyond the Badge Questionnaire must be completed for each participant and brought with you.

Each rider/participant must have a registration.  NO WALK-INS ARE PERMITTED.  All classes are booked on a first come, first served basis and do not use a waitlist system. If your preferred day or time is not available, please choose another option or check back online periodically to see if space has opened up.  We are unable to allow additional riders/participants once the maximum number that is set for each event has been met.

These outings are often considered the highlight of a Scout's year, and they are in very high demand. Please get your reservations in early to get a slot! Slots are first-come, first-served.
