2023 NRA Pistol Instructor Classes

Event Details

 NRA Pistol Instructor

The NRA Pistol Instructor Training class is designed to develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course. NRA Pistol Instructor Training begins with the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting class, which must be completed first. Both classes together form the required course for NRA Pistol Instructor certification. While we do teach the basic class, the students should have some experience with pistol shooting. The class is not designed to take someone with no shooting expierence and turn them into a qualified instructor for that type of firearm.

Read the WHOLE Text, there is very important information listed in it that will be critical for you to signup and attend this course!

Starting in 2021 the Pistol class is now in two parts. Each part for a class will be approximately a month apart. The first part is Basic Pistol, the second part is the Instructor class. You MUST have a completion card from the Basic Pistol class in order to attend the Instructor part of the class. You will not be allowed to stay at the Instructor class without proof that you have taken the Basic Pistol class. The Basic Class is a full day on a Saturday, and the Instructor class is also a full day on a Saturday but may run into Sunday depending on how the class is going. Be prepared to spend Sunday also for the instructor class if  it needs to finish up on that day.

You must already have taken and passed the NRA BIT (Basic Instructor Training) course within the last two years prior to attending this class. If you do not have your BIT Rating when you come to class you can not take the class and will have to go home. There is a BIT class scheduled prior to this class. If you don't see a BIT class on the events page in Black Pug, that means you have missed the class proceeding the session of this instructor class. Black Pug displays events in calendar order, so after the BIT class for this round, that class gets displayed much farther down the list of classes. If this is the case you will need to start the instructor class process after the next BIT class. You can use the search feature on the Event listing page by searching for the words Shooting Sports, this will show all our classes and hide most of the other events in the council.

If you are already have a NRA Instructor rating, then you have the BIT rating, but the BIT Class you took to get that rating has to be within the proceeding two years of this classes date.  If all you have is RSO, then you MUST take the BIT class before you take this class. You can signup for the class if you have signed up for the BIT class but haven't taken it yet. You must have BIT by the time you attend this class. You should register first for it to make sure there is space before you register for this class. You do not have have taken the class before you signup for this class, only have taken in before you come to this class.

You will not be registered in the class until you complete the payment for the class.

Register for only One Session. If a session shows as "SOLD OUT", that class is full. You should then register another session that will fit your schedule to attend. In the event we get a cancellation for a class, we will email all participants in the future classes and the first to respond will be moved to that class. The chances of this happening to any particular person is small. Our classes fill up quick, and we have few cancellations. But they do happen, if so we would like to fill those spots due to the demand for the classes. If you are already registered and paid, this will be easier than managing a waitlist for a class that likely will not be used. Do not just show up at a class hoping you will get in, you will be turned away. Walk-ins are not accepted.

Registration for the class closes Wednesday, the week of the class.

To register for a class, fill out the registrant section of the registration form. Once all the required questions (boxes with the red text above) are filled in, you can then click on the Checkout Tab, and complete payment for the class. Only after you've done all this and paid, is your registration for the class complete.
