Lone Star District Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training
Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops in order to be considered “trained”.
Cost: $25.00 per person online plus $10.00 cash per person payable at Orientation (to cover patrol meals)
Location: Camp James Ray (2026 Mill Creek Rd, Pottsboro, TX 75076)
Date: 6:00pm on Friday, November 5, 2021 – 9:00pm on Saturday, November 6, 2021 (after the campfire)
IOLS Orientation is required.
Date: Tuesday, November 2, 2021
Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Location: Stonebridge United Methodist Church (1800 S. Stonebridge Drive McKinney, TX 75072)

Lone Star District Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Training
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation is an overnight training event that introduces parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly Pack camping. The training includes campsite selection, outdoor event planning, Parent involvement, health & safety, equipment, Cub Scout cooking and Intro to camping skills.
Cost: $35.00 per person
Location: Camp James Ray (2026 Mill Creek Rd, Pottsboro, TX 75076)
Date: 8:00am on Saturday, November 6, 2021 – 12:00pm on Sunday, November 7, 2021
BALOO Orientation is required.
Date: Tuesday, November 2, 2021
Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Location: In lieu of in person orientation, please check your email for list of to do items prior to weekend training.

Completion of this course is mandatory for at least one adult on a Pack overnighter. Participants are not required to be an experienced Cub Scout leader, but must take the online Youth Protection Training (Y01) and online BALOO Prerequisite Training course modules v2 (SCO_280 to SCO_283) BEFORE attending the class. You must bring to class a copy of Scout Medical Forms A & B along with a copy of your medical insurance card (both sides).
Note: YPT (Youth Protection Training) and Leader specific Training is required for this course.
