BALOO Training Hosted by Lone Star District

Join the Lone Star District for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation or BALOO training. It is required for Packs and Webelos Patrols to camp.

The target participant for BALOO training is a Cub Scout leader with a desire to plan and carry out an entry level outdoor experience for the Pack or Den. Successful completion of this training will result in an increased level of confidence and a willingness to plan an age-appropriate Pack overnighter.
The goals of the Pack overnight activity is to provide a successful Pack event that is:
• Age appropriate
• Based on the purposes of Cub Scouting
• Successful in whetting the appetite of the Cub Scout, his parents, and the leaders who want to do more in the outdoors.
BALOO Prerequisite Online Training v2 - This my.scouting.org learning module provides the knowledge base prior to taking the BALOO Outdoor course and is required training to complete prior to attending the outdoor portion. Certificate of completion is required at check-in.
BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) Training Learning Objectives
1. Understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program.
2. Acquire the skills and confidence necessary to plan and carry out a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity.
3. Increase the Cub Scout Leaders knowledge of the resources available from the BSA for carrying out these activities.

Workshops in:
Cub Scout cooking, First aid and sanitation, Nature Hikes, Campsite Selection, Gas Stoves, Lanterns and Fire safety
Note: YPT (Youth Protection Training) and Leader specific Training is required for this course.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation is a one-day training event that introduces parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly Pack camping. The training includes: Site selection, outdoor event planning, Parent involvement, health & safety, equipment, Cub Scout cooking and Intro to camping skills.
Please attend in Uniform, bring a chair, note pad, water, and a non-cooking lunch, designed for Cub Scouts. You will share what is in your lunch with the others, so we may learn from each other.
