Chisholm Trail Leader Outdoor Trainings

Event Details

BALOO stands for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. It’s the introductory training Cub Scout leaders should complete before taking Cub Scouts on an overnight camping trip. Recent updates to this two-part course make the content more impactful, useful and convenient. The BSA requires that you have at least one BALOO-trained adult on every Cub Scout den or pack overnight outdoor event. That include pack camping and Webelos den overnighters.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) gives adult leaders the practical knowledge they need to help Scouts BSA and older program participants to learn outdoor skills. The skills presented closely follow the Boy Scout Handbook and rank advancement requirements. All the skills up to First Class Rank are covered in this training.

This is a required training course for to be a fully trained Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmasters. It is also encouraged for anyone who will be participating on campouts regularly to consider taking this class. The training is designed to help all adult leaders regardless of experience level feel comfortable performing and supervising these skills with youth.
