2025 Jackalope Egg Hunt

Event Details

Get ready for some spring cleaning: the 2025 Jackalope Egg Hunt for Conservation is coming March 8, 2025.

Compete with Scouts from across the council to collect the most ‘Jackalope Eggs’ (Golf Balls) that have been hit out of the UT Golf Course into critical wildlife habitat in the Balcones Canyon Preserve.

Scouts will compete on a unit-wide basis, with the unit or each type (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venture Crews, Sea Scout Ships, and Explorer Posts) with the most pounds of ‘Jackalope Eggs’ per scout taking home a custom trophy. This means if only two scouts can come from your unit, they will have the same chance to win as a unit that brings thirty scouts.

Last year in 2024, we saw Troop 441 of Bee Cave District take home the overall prize with 40.93 lbs of golf balls per person, and the top Pack for 2024 was Pack 201 of the North Shore District with 525 lbs of golf balls total! Wow! We had units from North Shore, Bee Cave, Chisholm Trail, and Armadillo districts in attendance.

This year the Challenge will have two areas for hunting, a Cub Zone that is easier to traverse, and an Adventure Zone for older Scouts. Units will need to arrive on March 8th to attend the 8:30am safety briefing and check-in. Scouts will have three hours to hunt and can turn in Jackalope Eggs for weighing throughout the morning. A final tally will be made and winners crowned after the end of the hunt at 12:30 pm. Scouts will get a patch for this conservation project!

Bring T-shirts/Activity Uniforms (and your Class A Uniforms also welcome, we’re going to be in the news!), hiking boots, water bottles, and snacks.

Service hours and conservation hours will be signed off by the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve staff, so bring you Scout books!
