Commissioner Seabadge 2025
Seabadge is the official advanced training program for Sea Scouts. It is intended to assist Sea Scout adult leaders and other Scouters at all levels to understand the role of Sea Scouts in Scouting America, appreciate some of the management techniques that can improve the quality of ship (or any older Scout unit) program, and apply these methods to expand Sea Scouts to serve a greater number of youth. The course also covers some of the challenges and opportunities unique to Sea Scout ships, such as dealing with boat donations and Coast Guard Auxiliary sponsorship.
We will be conducting a virtual Seabadge course in February exclusively for Commissioners - the content is identical to the usual course, but the staff have been chosen for Commissioner perspective and the discussions will be among fellow Commissioners. If you have already taken Seabadge, you will need approval from the course director to take it again. We need to reserve the limited spaces in this course for those who have never had the opportunity to take Seabadge.
The course will be conducted virtually, by Zoom, and will consist of an orientation/introduction session of about 1.5 hours - there will be a couple of options for that a week or two before the course - followed by two full days of instruction on Saturday February 15th and Saturday February 22nd, 2025. These days will include about 7 hours of instruction plus a lunch break. Classes both days will start at 8am central time. To graduate, you must attend all of the sessions on both days, plus complete a set of 5 goals that you will establish for yourself during the course.
The only prerequisites are to complete Sea Scout Adult Leader Basic Training (available online), and to be serving as any kind of Commissioner or Commissioner Team member at any level (District, Council, Territory or National).
