Citizenship in Society in-person Merit Badge Counselor Training
Citizenship in Society is the Boy Scouts of America’s newest merit badge for youth in the Scouts BSA program and is an Eagle required merit badge (one that is required for the rank of Eagle Scout starting July 1, 2022). The merit badge is focused on a journey of self-discovery concerning topics around diversity, equity, and inclusion, and how those discussions benefit society through the lens of the Scout Oath and Law. All key facts and information about this merit badge can be found at http://www.scouting.org/dei.
To become a counselor for this merit badge in our council, an adult volunteer must complete the following:
- BSA’s Merit Badge Counselor “position specific” training found on my.scouting.org.
- BSA’s “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Scouting” volunteer training (SCO 1800) found in the “BSA Learn Center” at my.scouting.org (search “diversity” in BSA Learn Center’s catalog; it’s the 30 minute course).
- Our council Citizenship in Society Merit Badge Counselor training Part 1: Online CiS MBC Guidelines Training. This is a Powerpoint slide deck you will find and download from the registration page for Part 2 of the training. Review this slide deck on your own time before participating in the Part 2 Zoom training. It will take 30-45 minutes for you to complete. Click here to download Part 1.
This is Part 2 of the Citizenship in Society Merit Badge training. This training is approximately 2.5 hours. Come prepared to participate in small group discussions. Be familiar with the Citizenship in Society requirements ahead of time.
