Paddle the Buffalo
Paddle the Buffalo. This will be an exciting 3-night, 4-day canoeing and kayaking adventure along the Buffalo River, designed specifically for Troops and Crews (ages 11 and up).
Event Details:
Dates: July 6-9, 2025
Location: Grimes Canoe Base
Cost: $225 per person (includes transportation, boats, meals, lodging, and a patch)
Capacity: Limited to 150 Scouts
Registration & Payment Deadline: July 10 by noon
Participation/Unit Requirements:
- Scouts must be at least 11 years old—no exceptions.
- Must have a Annual Health and Medical Form (Parts A, B, & C)
- Must bring a Swim Classification Record to event (Swim Tests are available at Boxwell Summer Camp)
- Must be classified as a Swimmer; Beginners may only participate if accompanied by an Adult Swimmer.
- Troops must attend as a unit with proper leadership—no individual Scout drop-offs.
- Adult leaders must complete Safety Afloat training and show proof at check-in.
- Each troop must have at least 2 adult leaders per 10 Scouts.
Program Highlights:
- Scouts will complete the 50-Miler Award:
- Day 1: 18 miles canoeing/kayaking
- Day 2: 15 miles canoeing/kayaking
- Day 3: 14 miles canoeing/kayaking + 3-mile float to the finish
- Meals provided: Breakfast & dinner at base, lunch on the river
Special Commemorative Paddle: Each participating unit will sign a paddle that will be displayed at Grimes Canoe Base

- Sleeping bag & pillow
- Toiletries & mess kit
- River shoes & clothing for water activities
- Hat, sunscreen, and sun-protective clothing
- Twine & carabiner for securing personal gear

6:00 PM – Dinner
Tuesday Night: 7:45 PM – Campfire

6:30 AM – Flag Ceremony
7:00 AM – Breakfast & Safety Briefing
8:00 AM – Launch on the River
4:00 PM – End of the trip, pack up & depart
Scouts should also bring a little extra money for the trading post to grab snacks, drinks, and souvenirs.
