Spring Wilderness First Aid Training @ Latimer

Event Details

Latimer Reservation is proud to offer to Scouts (age 14) and adults the opportunity to complete the Wilderness First Aid Training.  This training is required of each unit participating in any of the national high adventure programs of the BSA.  WFA will be offered at Latimer Reservation on Saturday, March 9, 2024.  A CPR skills check will be conducted Friday, March 8, 2024, for those that need it. The skills checks will be conducted by certified instructors, Janet Forde, Bob Forde, and Katie Sherrouse.

For more information contact Bob at bsawfa@bobbobbob.info

SPACE IS LIMITED!

WFA is both on-line and on-ground. Once each leader or scout registers for the class at Latimer the student will receive a class code for the on-line portion of WFA in email (each must have a unique email) EACH PERSON MUST REGISTER INDIVIDUALLY SO THAT WE HAVE A VALID EMAIL. Complete the class (approximately 8 hours of study) online before the Latimer skills check. You must bring the on-line course completion certificate to the Latimer skills check. The course completion certificate is required for participation in the scenarios.

If CPR certification is not valid at the time of the class, also register for the on-line CPR class. Follow the instructions in the WFA class email (which you will receive following registration) and be at Latimer Friday evening by 7:30 PM for the CPR skills check. WFA certification requires a current valid CPR certification at the time of the WFA skills check.

The WFA skills check will be Saturday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Please wear clothes that can get dirty, each will take turns being victims during the skills check scenarios. Each person needs to bring a backpack with typical things leaders or scouts would have on an overnight backpacking trip. These items will be used to improvise during the WFA treatment scenarios.

Be prepared for the weather. We will spend some time outside, rain or shine, cold or warm.

The cost of the skills check is $90.00 per person.  The $90.00 fee includes supplemental materials, food and lodging in climate-controlled cabins. The $90.00 fee does not include the CPR Skills Online.  You will need to pay this online.  You will need to bring linens for a twin bed or sleeping bag, pillow, towel/wash cloth, toiletries, clothing (check the weather, it can be tricky this time of year on the plateau), and pen/paper.  In addition, you will also be required to bring your pack with personal gear for a 3-night trip into the back country, without food. You will be improvising first aid materials and will utilize what you bring with you.

Everyone attending this training will be required to submit a BSA medical form upon arrival at camp.
