2026 Desoto Good Scout Award Dinner

Event Details

Come and be a part of this celebration as we honor Tom as the Good Scout of the year.  This ceremony and dinner will take place at 1 Memphis (2467 Memphis Street, Hernando, MS), on June 18, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

Tom Pittman is a Mississippi native who has devoted his career to improving the quality of life across the state, particularly in Northwest Mississippi. As co-founder, former president, and president emeritus of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, he has helped raise more than $50 million to support education, health, and youth initiatives throughout the region.

Previously, Pittman served as publisher and editor of the DeSoto Times and held leadership roles with the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, earning recognition for editorial excellence and community impact. He has served in numerous leadership positions, including president of the Mississippi Press Association, and currently serves on several boards, including Southern Bancorp Community Partners, Entergy Mississippi, and Mississippi Today.

A graduate of the University of Mississippi and Emory University, Pittman is married to his wife, Cyndi, and they have four children and one grandchild.

I’m sure you are aware of the significant contributions the Boy Scouts of America has made to the lives of young people in our area.  For over 116 years, this youth program has taught our young people character, education, reverence to God, leadership, and ethical decision-making skills; leadership traits that can serve an adult a lifetime.  Your financial support is vital to our council's mission to help young people reach their full potential.  During the dinner, you will have the opportunity to donate to the Scouting program. If you are unable to attend the dinner, kindly return the enclosed card with your donation. Your contribution will benefit the scouting efforts of the Chickasaw Council. Our goal is to raise $26,000 at this dinner.

Please let us know if you can attend by June 8, 2026.  Your prompt response will help us plan for the event.  Thank you for being a part of this exciting and historic evening and for your support of scouting in Desoto County.
