Harbison State Forest Cub Family Day

Event Details

Harbison State Forest

Cub Scout Family Day

Wednesday, June 10th

8:30am-2:30pm

Join us at Harbison State Forest’s Environmental Education Center and enjoy a fun day in the forest with your family exploring and learning with your family this summer.  Scouts will take part in fun, hands-on, educational experiences.  Discover some of the resources forests provide to humans and come to understand that people have a very large part to play in sustaining the health of forests.  Our Program Managers will be available to guide you through these exciting programs:

Junior Forester Program - Scouts and families can check out a backpack loaded with nature investigation supplies and work with an age-appropriate activity book (grade band K-2 or 3-5) containing hands-on learning experiences to be completed on a hike in the forest. Upon completion, each Scout will receive a SC Forestry Commission Junior Forester Badge, as well as a Smokey Bear goody bag.

Geocaching at Harbison State Forest - Find the seven geocaches hidden along the Learning & Discovery Trails to complete the HSF Geocache Coin Challenge. Each cache contains information regarding the divisions and duties within SCFC, and the importance of forestry in our state. There is an accompanying set of questions (one for each cache).  If you answer all seven questions correctly, you will receive a SCFC geocache coin!

UnbeLEAFable - This is a kid-friendly, self-led guide to identifying trees in HSF.  You will conquer the basics of tree identification techniques. You will get to identify over 10 tree species, all while learning some fun facts from our friend, Serrated Sam!

Scheduled Hikes for Scouts - A 2-mile hike for Tiger/Wolf/Bear-aged kids begins at 9:00 and ending around 10-10:30.   A 3.5-mile hike for Webelos/AOL-aged kids begins at 10:30 and will end around 12 noon.

Cost is $7 per Scout/Family and must register before Friday, June 5th.

Onced registered for the class, Scouts should be prepared for the material being discussed by reviewing the items below before the session.
