BSA's Trainer Development Course

Every Scouter deserves to have a trained leader!

Purpose: Trainer's EDGE is BSA's trainer development course designed to help Scouters put into practice the EDGE training model and gain self-confidence through hands-on training experiences. It replaces the Trainer Development Conference (BSA 500) as the required train-the-trainer course.

Who:  All Trainers and Instructors

Trainer's EDGE brings to life the EDGE model taught in Troop Leadership Training, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training, National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), and Wood Badge.

Participants must prepare a presentation (about five minute), using the EDGE Model, before the course and bring the material, equipment, and/or props they need to deliver the presentation.  They will be given an opportunity to practice this presentation in a small group setting and receive feedback.  The topic of the presentation is at the discretion of the presenter, Scouting topics/skills are always good.

The course is designed for individuals who will be delivering training to adults and youth in all parts of the Scouting program on all levels, i.e., Pack, Troop, and Crew.  The course is also ideal for trainers on both the District and Council levels of Scouting.  Some of these positions include:

Scoutmasters and ASMs            Commissioner trainers
Adult Leader trainers                 NYLT & Wood Badge staff
Merit Badge counselors              Troop Guides and Instructors
Roundtable Leaders                   Unit Leaders
Pack trainers
