Operation Be Prepared

Event Details

WHO - Scouts BSA members who need to earn their First Aid, Search and Rescue or Emergency Preparedness Merit Badges. Participants may come as individuals, patrols or Troops. Adult and Youth Leaders can register to take First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Host troops will be designated at certain provisional campsites to accommodate all campers. Please bring a copy of your health form/emergency contact information. 

WHAT - Join us for the annual "Operation Be Prepared Weekend" hosted by Camp Yawgoog. This event is geared for leaders who need to be certified and Scouts who need to earn either First Aid, Search and Rescue or Emergency Preparedness Merit Badges. 

The Hope Valley - Wyoming Fire District, and the Hope Valley Ambulance Squad are expected to visit us at this event. There should also be a special demonstration again this year.

PREREQUISITES:

The following are requirements are to be completed prior to class. If uncompleted, it will result in a “partial” for the merit badge class.

For First Aid - Satisfy your counselor that you have the current knowledge of all first aid requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First-Class ranks.

Tenderfoot rank requirements 4.a.-d.- Second Classes rank requirements 6.a.-e. -  First Class rank requirements 7.a.-f.

For Emergency Preparedness

1.    Earn the First Aid Merit Badge - This requirement can be satisfied by a note from a Scoutmaster or Troop Advancement Chair or presented as a signed and completed blue card. 

8.b. Prepare a personal emergency service pack for a mobilization call.  Prepare a family kit (suitcase or waterproof box) for use by your family in case an emergency evacuation is needed.    Explain the needs and uses of the contents. Requirement 8.b. can be presented in person during the weekend, represented in photographs or satisfied by a note from a parent or Scoutmaster.

Check in located in the Medicine Bow Dining Hall.

Parking available in the Sandy Beach parking lot.

WHEN - Saturday, September 28th - Sunday, September 29th 2024.

Check in- Saturday 8:00 to 8:30 am

 Program Begins - Saturday 9:00 am   

Program Ends - Sunday 10:30 am

WHY - Earn and learn at the same time.  Spend the weekend with fellow Scouters and train together. 

Scouts' BSA members will have the opportunity to earn the First Aid, Search and Rescue, or the Emergency Preparedness merit badges. Adults and Youth leaders can also register to earn First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

HOW - Register online today! - Limited class space available. 

Please bring a copy of your health form/emergency contact information.

Participants will be camping near, and eating at, the Medicine Bow Dining Hall. Scouts should be prepared for fall weekend camping including a tent, as well as proper clothing and gear.

Be prepared for classroom time, include a notebook and writing supplies.

A Yawgoog tradition, Class A uniform is expected to be worn to dinner on Saturday and while you are at camp on Sunday.

 Interfaith service held Sunday morning.

First 50 registrants receive a shirt.
