Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) - Fall

WHO - This training is for Cub Scout leaders who plan to organize a Cub Scout pack or den overnight camping activities.
WHY - Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
WHAT - This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight outdoor camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
BALOO training includes two required components — an online module followed by a practical, overnight outdoor session. Both must be completed in order for leaders to earn the “Trained” status and receive the official BALOO recognition patch.
1. Online Training Component
The online learning portion is available anytime through the Scouting America Learning Center. Participants must complete this section before attending the in-person course.
The online modules are designed to build foundational knowledge and help maximize the hands-on learning experience during the practical session.
Participants must bring a printed or digital copy of their completion certificate to the in-person training.
2. Practical, Hands-On Component
The in-person portion is a 1.5-day, overnight outdoor training experience. During this session, leaders will learn essential Cub Scout outdoor program skills, including campsite setup, outdoor cooking, program planning, safety, and activities appropriate for Cub Scouts.
This training is ideal for Pack leaders who want to enhance their unit’s program with outdoor adventures and ensure they meet all Scouting America requirements for Cub Scout camping.
