Plumbing & Welding Merit Badge at Local Union 51

Event Details

WHO - This event is open to Scouts BSA members ages 13 and older.

WHAT - The Plumbing Merit Badge hosted by Arden Engineering offers an exciting opportunity for Scouts to dive into the world of plumbing. This hands-on workshop is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of plumbing systems, including how they work, how to fix common issues, and the importance of water conservation.

Scouts who earn the Welding Merit Badge gain handson experience with a skill that’s both practical and creative. They learn how to work safely with welding tools, understand different types of metals, and make basic welds themselves. Along the way, they’ll develop patience, attention to detail, and confidence using real equipment.

WHERE - LU 51 Training Facility 11 Hemingway Dr. Riverside, RI

WHY - The Plumbing Merit Badge workshop by Arden Engineering empowers Scouts with essential plumbing skills, promotes environmental stewardship, and offers a glimpse into potential career paths. It's a fun, hands-on experience that builds confidence and practical knowledge.

Scouts should take the Welding Merit Badge because it offers a rare chance to learn a real trade skill in a handson, exciting way. Welding lets Scouts create something from raw metal, see immediate results from their effort, and gain confidence using tools safely.

WHEN - April 23, 2026

Program - Starts at 9:00 am sharp - 1:30 pm

Scouts are required to wear long pants—such as denim or sturdy work-style pants—that fully cover the tops of their shoes. Longsleeve shirts and appropriate boots (work boots or hiking boots; no crocs) are also mandatory. Because we will be working in a shop environment, proper attire is essential to ensure everyone’s safety.
