Rifle Instructors Needed for Camp Horseshoe and Camp Ware Rangemaster Program

A National Rifle Association Certified Rifle Instructor course will be conducted the weekend of October 3 and 4, 2026

Who: Scout Leaders, at least 21 years of age who are US Citizens or possess a Green Card.  (Those 18 to 20 years of age can take the course to become an “Assistant Instructor” and those 13 to 17 years of age can take the course, along with a parent, to become an “Apprentice Instructor”)

All candidates must have a solid background in firearm safety and be able to demonstrate good rifle shooting skills and safety.  

What:  On successful completion, candidates will receive a National Rifle Association Instructors Rating in Certified Rifle, which is required by BSA to supervise rifle shooting and also qualifies you for BB gun shooting.  The course consists of 3 segments:  Basic Instructor Training, Basic Rifle Training, and Certified Rifle Instructor Training. 

When:  The course will consist of about 21 - 22 hours of classroom and range training.  Due to the Council Sporting Clays event on October 2, the course will begin on Saturday, sharply at 7:30am October 3rd, and should conclude around 5pm on Sunday October 4th.  (Rough Schedule:  Saturday, arrival and set up 7:30am, with class instruction 8am to 7pm, Sunday 7am to 5pm)

Where:  The course will be held in Rothrock Lodge at Camp Horseshoe. Participants are welcome to camp overnight.  Meals will be provided for Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast and lunch.  Neither Saturday breakfast nor Sunday dinner will be provided.

Cost:  Cost for this training is $175.  The course fee includes lodging, training materials, supplies and meals.  Last date to sign up, September 4.

Registration and Payment is on-line via the Council website and calendar.

Class size is limited, so only the first 16 qualified applicants can be accepted.  You must be present for and complete the entire course in order to be eligible for certification.

Refund policy:

100% refund if cancelled by September 4.

Refund after September 4, only if a qualified replacement is found to take your place.
