2021 7B Fall Camporee

Event Details

Get Lost in the Woods on Oct. 2!

Scouts from Seven Bridges District will get lost and found at the Fall Camporee at Camp Karoondinha.

Units or Scouts may arrive at Camp K between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. A brief opening will take place at the Dining Hall Parade Field at 9:45, and then Scouts will take part in instructional rotation stations from 10 a.m. to noon. Scouts should bring a simple baseplate compass.GPS receivers will be available for demonstration. Scouts intending to use a GPS app on a smartphone as a substitute for a GPS receiver should be sure to complete the Cyber Chip. The lunch break is noon to 1:30 p.m. Participants should pack a lunch and water bottles unless their unit is cooking together in a campsite.

From 1:30 to 4:30, the Scouts will participate in map and compass field exercises, orienteering, and geocaching adventures based on ability groups. This Camporee is paying special attention to providing instruction for Second Class rank requirement 3 (for Scouts below Second Class), First Class rank requirement 4 (for Scouts below First Class), and Camping Merit Badge requirement 3. More experienced Scouts will be blindfolded, driven to a remote location, and released to find their way to various cached treasures on their routes back to Camp.

Following a break from 4:30 to 6:30 in which Scouts may cook and eat a meal with their Troops (perhaps fulfilling a Second Class cooking requirement for some Scouts), Scouts will gather at 6:30 at the Lakefront Pavilion for a night hike by ability groups, with older/more experienced Scouts having a more challenging route to navigate. Head lamps with red filters and proper footgear are strongly encouraged.

Scouts and Troops may camp Saturday night in a Camp Karoondinha campsite. They should bring personal tents. Everyone should depart Camp by 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Participants may register singly or with their Troops. Individually registered youth will need a responsible adult on site, either a parent/guardian, two adults from their Troops, or two adults from another Troop who have agreed to the responsibility for the day. Troops should provide two-deep leadership for their youth.
