Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation

FOR ALL CUB-LEVEL SCOUTERS!  A BALOO-trained leader must be present at any pack overnighter or Webelos camping adventure!

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: September 28

PREP MEETING: September 28, 6-9 p.m. (Location:Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 Mahoning Street, Milton)

TRAINING: October 8-9 (Begins @ 6 p.m. Friday, estimated ending by 8 p.m. Saturday)

TRAINING LOCATION: Camp Karoondinha!  (Parking will be in the main lot. Trainees will hike into camp)

CHECK-IN: @ Maintenance Shed (Training begins PROMPTLY @ 6 p.m. Friday)

 

PREREQUISITE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED: MUST COMPLETE!  Go to my.scouting.org > My Training > Training Center > Expanded Learning (Includes Hazardous Weather) > Baloo (new page will open) > click! BALOO Prerequisite Training v2

Complete the online course, print your certificate, and bring it with you to the Prep Meeting!

This training introduces Cub Scout leaders (and parents!) to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack level outdoor activities; particularly camping! Each Pack should have more than one BALOO trained Scouter! This is an OUTDOOR, OVERNIGHT TRAINING, check weather reports, plan and dress accordingly, and read “WHAT TO BRING” on the registration flyer.  To help keep the cost reduced, please bring something to share for CRACKERBARREL SNACK Friday night. You and your DEN will plan and prepare your own breakfast and lunch; Dinner will be provided for Saturday night!

To help you best prepare for this training, please be sure to pack the following items for the weekend training:

  • Completed BSA Medical Form (Parts A and B--no doctor visit needed)
  • Mask
  • Note taking supplies
  • Water bottle and hot beverage cup
  • Backpack
  • Appropriate clothing
  • Tent or hammock for sleeping
  • Sleeping bag and pad
  • Camp chair (optional)
  • Illumination
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Eating and cooking utensils (will be discussed at Prep Meeting)
  • Rain gear
  • Hat / Beanie / Toque / Balaclava (if you bring baklava, please share)
  • Extra socks
  • Bug repelant
  • Den planned meal supplies (will be discussed at Prep Meeting)
  • Cracker Barrel snack
