Calling all Scouts BSA Patrols! Are you ready to answer the call of the wild frontier? Gather your wagon train (sled), prepare your pioneering spirit, and test your mettle in the grand tradition of American trailblazers! This Klondike Derby challenges you to conquer the "wilderness" and
prove your patriotism through skill, teamwork, and an unyielding spirit!

Details:
Frontier Challenges begin at 12:30 P.M. and will run into the evening (including a night run)!
Patrols will pull their "prairie schooner" (Klondike Sled) along a challenging "Oregon Trail." Along the trail, patrols will navigate to 8 "forts" or "settlements" to complete skill challenges vital to survival and expansion.
Adventures may include:
Pioneer Fire | Frontier Medic | Pathfinding & Surveying | Homestead Shelter | Wagon Repair & Bridge Building
And many more tests of grit and ingenuity inspired by American History!
Patrols will be judged on their skills, efficiency, teamwork, and unwavering patriotic spirit.
**Plus - Introducing The "Trail Boss" Challenge - An Adult Night Run!
Entry Fee (A "Trail Toll" for a good cause): 1 canned good per adult OR $10 per sled
Get your leader sleds ready to participate in four special events designed to test your speed and skills!
All proceeds will be donated directly to the Cochranton Food Pantry!
"Wagon Train" Gear List
Each patrol is responsible for bringing a fully-stocked "prairie schooner" (Klonkide sled) ready for the journey. And please dress for the weather! - Layers, waterproof boots, gloves, and hats are essential for surviving the frontier! BE PREPARED!
- A sturdy Klondike sled (built to withstand adventure and decorated patriotically)
- Flashlights or Headlamps (one per scout)
- The 10 Scout Essentials (carried by the patrol)
- Patrol Roster
- Patrol First Aid Kit
- Fire starting materials (flint & steel, tinder, etc.)
- Rope and poles for lashing
- Compasses
- Tarp or materials for emergency shelter
- Any other critical item. e.g., small American Flag (for sled), water, snacks, etc.
