Scouts, BSA IOLS Training

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) provides adult leaders with the practical knowledge they need to help Scouts learn outdoor skills. The skills presented closely follow the Scout BSA Handbook and rank advancement requirements. Skills from Tenderfoot to First Class are covered in this training.
Instructors will help you learn how to set up camp, cook, work with wood tools, develop rope skills, organize campfire programs, navigate with a map and compass, practice hiking and packing techniques, identify nature, and understand outdoor ethics. Each outdoor session will help you guide scouts to complete rank advancements successfully. It will enhance your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained and skilled leader.
The program offers you the opportunity to work with other scout leaders, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit leaders.
IOLS participants who have completed Leader Specifics (online), Hazardous Weather, and Youth Protection trainings will be recognized with the TRAINED patch during the IOLS graduation ceremony.
This is a required training course for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. It is also recommended for anyone who plans to participate in campouts regularly to consider taking this class. The training is designed to help all adult leaders, regardless of experience level, feel comfortable performing and supervising these skills with youth.
