Wilderness First Aid Training

Wilderness First Aid certification through Scouting America in partnership with Emergency Care & Safety Institute
This course will teach you best practices to prevent, assess, and treat medical emergencies when in the backcountry – which is defined as being more than one hour away from definitive medical care. The class is a 16-hour certification which includes not only classroom instruction but also a practical hands-on application in the form of practice scenarios. Most importantly, it emphasizes that the safety of everyone involved is paramount, and it teaches participants how to gain control of an urgent situation so that resources can be utilized appropriately.
Course cost ($165) includes:
- Wilderness First Aid Field Guide OR Textbook (same information, different formats)
- Personal First Aid Kit
- Lodging (indoors!)
- Food & Refreshments - Snacks throughout, Saturday breakfast & lunch, Sunday breakfast. Saturday dinner is on your own at a nearby establishment or you can order out and come back to eat.
As with all Scouting events, participants must have a completed Annual Health & Medical Record. Only parts A and B are required for events under 72 hours. Click HERE to download a copy.
Participants must be at least 14 years of age. Having basic first-aid training is very helpful but is not mandatory.
