Wilderness First Aid

Headed to Philmont, Sea Base, or taking your troop or Crew on a wilderness experience?

At least one of the leader in your group must have Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness First Aid through Emergency Care and Safety Institute is currently a hybrid 16-hour class. There is an 8-hour online training followed by an 8-hour in-person training. Once you are registered you will be given instructions on how to complete the online portion of the class. Introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. This training is targeted to Scout Leaders that are taking troops or crews into the backcountry where medical help is more than an hour away.

Course topics are:

Patient Assessment System; CPR; Circulatory System; Nervous System; Respiratory System; Fractures, Stable Injuries; Splints 1-Extremities; Hypothermia; Hyperthermia and Heat Illness; Near Drowning; Lightning Injuries; Wounds and Burns; Anaphylaxis; Lifting, Moving Extrication; Patient Carries; Backcountry Medici

 

The course is Saturday, January 14, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.  

Upon arrival at Camp Guyasuta check the digital sign in front of the McGinnis Education Center for where to meet for the merit badge class. 

No walk-ins will be accepted.

 

Classes are held at Camp Guyasuta 300 – 23rd Street Sharpsburg, PA 15215

Bring a bagged lunch

All participants must be at least 14 years of age and have completed 8 hours of Online Training and CPR/AED prior to the start of the course

Please dress for the weather as most of the class will be held outdoors.

Remember to bring a CPR Card and certificate from the online portion with you
