Chainsaw Training @ Camp Baker

Chainsaw Training at Camp Baker
Class will begin promptly at 8 AM. Please be sure to arrive early enough to get settled in so that we can start on time. Class is limited to 8 participants, and all participants must be over 21 years old. Please bring a current Part A/B BSA Medical Form.
Each participant needs to bring the following:
1. A working chainsaw with appropriate fuel and bar oil.
- Saws must have a rear handle. Small top handle saws are not appropriate for felling work.
- Prior to class day, please verify that your saw is in good working order and will start and run properly.
- Also be certain to have a new or properly sharpened chain installed.
2. Personal protective equipment:
- Hard hat with face shield/mesh screen
- Eye protection (in addition to the face shield on your helmet)
- Ear protection
- Gloves
- Long pants
- Chainsaw chaps / chainsaw pants
- High top leather boots (safety toe preferred)
3. Lunch / water
4. Clothing appropriate for being outside
Please download and review the course Learning Journal, and bring a copy with you to class. The Journal can be found HERE.
We will spend roughly the first half of the day in the classroom, and the second half outside. Each participant will fell, limb, and buck their own tree, demonstrating proper technique and attention to safety. Participants are expected to be in reasonable physical condition at a level that will enable them to safely perform tasks typical of chainsaw use in the woods.
Class is scheduled to conclude around 4 PM, but may finish sooner or later than that depending on the progress everyone makes during the practical exercises. If there is enough time at the end, some additional cutting techniques may be demonstrated.
