How to Prepare

Review the following:

• First Aid
  • all general first aid from Scout BSA Handbook specifically for cold temperature related illness and injuries.
• Study methods to measure distance as explained in the Scouts BSA Handbook
• Study methods to measure height as explained in the Scouts BSA Handbook
• Study how to properly tie lashings as outlined in the Scouts BSA Handbook
• Study all basic principles of fire-building and what to do if the area is wet
• Animal and Plant Identification
  • Study how to identify local wildlife by tracks 
  • Study common plant life found in Western Pennsylvania
• Patrols must bring a Klondike sled to the event
• Patrols must bring 5 4-foot staves and 5 10-foot ropes for lashings to the event
• Patrols must bring a ferro rod and steel for fire-building during the event
• Each scout must bring a pre-made snow snake to the event
