Basic Chainsaw Training

In order to operate a chainsaw on Scouting America Property, you must complete the BSA Chain Saw Baic Training Course (No. 430-136) or hold professional credentials.

Mandatory Prerequisites

Before submitting your application, ensure you meet these national safety standards: 

1. Age: Must be at least 21 years old to operate a saw.

2. Registration: Must be a currently registered member of Scouting America.

3. Medical Fitness: You must provide a current Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A & B).

4. Physical Ability: You must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and stand for extended periods. 

Certification Details

Course Duration: 12-hour course consisting of 3–4 hours of classroom instruction followed by field cutting.

Validity: The certification is valid for five years.

Approval: All operators must be approved by the Council Scout Executive and Ranger, or a designated designee, prior to each work session.
