Saddle Up for Adventure at Butte Creek Scout Ranch!

The first thing Scouts talk about after returning from Butte Creek is the horses. Just south of Molalla, Oregon, Butte Creek Scout Ranch is a working horse ranch offering year-round camping and horseback riding. Each summer, it opens as a camp exclusively for Cub Scouts in Tiger, Wolf, and Bear ranks.

From the moment Scouts step onto Main Street—a recreation of a classic western town with a general store, restaurant, and more—they’re transported to the Ol' West. Every building has been cleverly designed as a centerpiece for young imaginations, with the dining hall, office, and trading post hidden in plain sight.

With costumed staff guiding the experience, Scouts feel like real cowboys, and it only gets better after their first horseback ride on some of the friendliest horses around. The sight of Scouts trotting along the trails, big smiles on their faces, is a highlight of their three-day adventure.

Beyond riding, there’s plenty more to explore, including a frontier area where Scouts get hands-on experience with barnyard animals, learn how families relied on gardens, and even scrub socks by hand to see how chores were done before electricity.
