BALOO Training Presented by Spirit Lake District

This course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities.
This course is an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience.
Scouting America requires at least one BALOO-trained adult leader be present for any Cub Scout overnight camping.
BALOO training consists of a short online prerequisite component and a hands-on practical course which includes camping overnight. Both portions of the training must be completed to earn certification.
Please complete the online portion of the training before you come to camp.
To access the online course:
- Log into my.scouting.org (same site & login used for Safeguarding Youth training).
- Select Menu in the upper left corner and select My Training.
- Select Training Center on the left menu bar, then select Cub Scouting.
- You can find BALOO Prerequisite Training under the Learning Plans tab.
The practical portion of BALOO training will be from Saturday at 8:00am to Sunday at 12:00pm. This includes in-person classes and activities, and a required overnight camping.

Important Notes
- Please bring completed Medical Forms Part A & B (required).
- Meals will be provided for Saturday lunch and dinner and Sunday breakfast. Please be sure to note any dietary restrictions.
- Saturday morning breakfast is optional for anyone who will be early. Please let the course lead know if you will be joining.
- Please bring personal camping gear, including a tent and mess kit. A gear list will be emailed to course participants.
- Participants may arrive on Friday evening if they would like to get there early and camp overnight; however, no meal will be provided. Please let the course lead know if you will be camping Friday evening.
- One night of camping is required for completion of the course.
- Training will contintue through Sunday morning, so please plan to stay until noon.
