Master the essentials of the Scouting program with IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills)! This hands-on, weekend course is designed to give adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead a successful, scout-led outdoor program. By "living the life of a Scout" for the weekend, you’ll gain proficiency in everything from fire building to map and compass work, ensuring you can guide your troop safely and confidently in the great outdoors.
About
- Two-day, overnight hands-on training course required for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered "Position Trained"
- Comprehensive skill-building covering fire building, outdoor cooking, knots and lashings, map and compass, woods tools, and first aid
- Focuses on the Patrol Method, teaching leaders how to facilitate a youth-led troop environment
Who
- Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, and any adult Scouter looking to enhance their outdoor leadership skills
Participant Requirements
- Full overnight experience—bring personal gear for tent camping, including sleeping bag, pad, and appropriate outdoor clothing
- Scout Uniform (Field Uniform) is encouraged for the duration of the course
- Participants will work in patrols to prepare meals; specific dietary needs should be noted during registration
- Must be currently registered in Scouting America
- Scouting America Medical form (Parts A B) required for the overnight stay
