Climbing Instructor Training
Registration Deadline is April 5th, 2025
You must have successfully completed COPE & Climbing Foundations training and be at least 16 years of age to enroll in Climbing Instructor training. Training will use classroom and natural settings to cover topics in Belay On to confirm knowledge and application of key concepts to complete Level 1 training requirements. An individual may, if they are at least 21 years of age, complete Level 2 training during this same class if they demonstrate significant skills and abilities.
Anyone wishing to complete Level 2 training should register for the class AND contact Climbing Chair to complete additional paperwork prior to class AND have own climbing equipment for use – as if hosting a Unit based climbing event. Wilburton, OKPreparation for class & requirements:
Download/Read Belay On, Chapters 23-27 from BSA web. Once registered, several additional training documents will be provided by Lead Training Instructor about 1 week prior to class.
You must be registered with BSA and have current Youth Protection, Weather Hazards and Climb on Safely training - complete this training on-line at my.scouting.org - and turn in certificates on training date.
You must have a current health form (part C optional) completed to turn in on training date.
Please bring your own food/drink for lunch as schedule does not allow enough time to go pick something up.
You may bring your own personal helmet and harness for use after being inspected and approved by trainers.
Overnight camping at the park is available separately but is not required for this event. A Friday night group camp may be organized by training staff to facilitate the event based on participation. Details will be made available a week prior to event by training staff. Camping details, fees and reservations at Robber Cave State Park available on their website.
Class size will be limited to 24 total participants
