The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in the Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training. In addition, the teaching methods, activities, and games model teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs. The skills sessions in IOLS closely follow the Scouts BSA Handbook. IOLS will help new leaders become proficient in many of the Scoutcraft Skills required for the First Class rank. Participants should leave the training with a full understanding of how the patrol method operates, a feeling of comfort in working with and instructing their Scouts, and an increased level of confidence taking Scouts outdoors safely.
This course, combined with the Scoutmaster/Assist. Scoutmaster Specifics, completes
the “Trained” requirements for a Scoutmaster/Assist. Scoutmaster.
Also qualifies as Supplemental Training for Scouters Training Award.
Any registered adult, especially Webelos/AOL Leaders and Committee Members looking to advance their understanding and support of Scouting, this course is for you!
Participants must complete any required position specific online or classroom portion prior to the course.
