IOLS Training

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops in order to be considered fully trained. Participants should have completed or have a plan to complete Scoutmaster Specific training.
IOLS is a combination of discussion and hands-on activities. Participants will camp overnight and cook a camp dinner and breakfast with their patrol. The course will provide chuck boxes and food to cook. Much of the course will entail walking and working outdoors. Wearing the BSA field uniform is encouraged but not required.
Registration will begin at 8AM Saturday (please, do not arrive before) and the course will begin at 9AM. Please come fed, coffee and snacks will be provided. The course will provide lunch, dinner and breakfast and a cracker barrel. The course will end at 11:30AM Sunday morning. Participants will be required to bring a completed BSA Medical Form (Parts A and B), and a current Youth Protection Training certificate to check in. Please also notify the course director of any food-related needs (allergies, vegetarian) as soon as possible.
