Electricity Merit Badge (Scissortail Series)

Event Details

Learn why electricity plays a significant role in the economy and how energy consumption impacts our daily lives with the Electricity Merit badge. Scouts will demonstrate how to respond to electrical emergencies, explain how a fuse blows or a circuit breaker trips, and complete an electrical home safety inspection. The Electricity Merit Badge is an excellent opportunity for Scouts to learn how to read an electric meter and determine their household’s energy cost from meter readings.

Join us at the Scout office to earn this exciting Merit Badge.  It will be taught by professional electricians with Pascal Electric in Newcastle.  Electricians have exciting career prospects in residential and commercial maintenace and new construction, aviation, and many other career fields.

Scouts will be required to fill out a home safety checklist (attached) to complete the Merit Badge, and are encouraged to perform the checklist with an adult prior to the session.

Scouts will be required to bring $15 to cover materials for the course.  There will be a pizza lunch break at noon, or Scouts can bring a sack lunch.  Scouts are strongly encouraged to read the pamphlet, and download and start filling out the workbook (both attached).

Parents should note that this Merit Badge requires practicing skills like soldering, and that the motor skills and focus ability of the Scout should be commiserate with the requirements of the Merit Badge.  Please contact the counselor with any questions or to discuss.
