Digital Technology/Cybersecurity Merit Badge (Scissortail Series)

Event Details

Comprehend how electronic devices work and how to use them effectively with the Digital Technology Merit Badge. Scouts will give a brief history of the changes in digital technology and discuss how technology today compares with the technology available to previous generations—all while imagining what kinds of devices might be available to them in the future.

The Cybersecurity Merit Badge equips Scouts with essential knowledge and skills to navigate and protect the digital world. Scouts learn about online safety, ethical behavior, cyber threats, and how to defend against them using tools like firewalls, antivirus software, and strong passwords. They explore encryption, connected devices, and the risks of public Wi-Fi, while also practicing safe habits like updating software and backing up data. Through hands-on activities, Scouts investigate real-world cyber incidents, participate in cybersecurity challenges, and explore career opportunities in the field.

Important:  The attached pre-requisites page must be completed by Scouts prior to attending the session.  There will not be time during the session to perform each of the pre-requisite activities.  Scouts are advised to budget suffient time to complete the pre-reqs.

Join us at the OSU-OKC campus to earn these exciting Merit Badges.  Scouts will use a computer network and workstation to access productivity tools and the Internet in a safe manner.  Since this session runs over the noon hour, Scouts may bring a lunch, or pizza will be provided (if there are diet restrictions or allergy issues, please contact Bill Hensley to discuss).

Parents are advised that Scouts will be accessing the Internet during this Merit Badge, and are required to consent to their Scout doing so.

Scouts are encouraged to read the Merit Badge pamphlet to prepare, and to print and start filling out the Merit Badge workbook.  Both are attached.
