Geocaching Merit Badge

Geocaching is an exciting activity that combines hi-tech satellite-guided navigation with hide-and-seek!
Join fellow Scouts at Dolese Park to learn how to geocache. You can use a backpacking or hiking GPS, or there are many apps that run on a smartphone to enable you to participate.
The word geocache is a combination of “geo,” which means “earth,” and “cache,” which means “a hiding place.” Geocaching describes a hiding place on planet Earth—a hiding place you can find using a GPS unit.
And... IT'S FUN!
Scouts will need access to a GPS-enabled device to complete the Merit Badge. This device can be shared with another Scout. The devicve will ideally have a geocaching app on it, such as the app avavilable at https://www.geocaching.com/play. A trail app such as All Trails may also work, or a GPS status app like GPS Status will as well. Contact Bill Hensley (billhensley@earthlink.net) with any questions about apps.
