2022 Klondike Derby
WHEN: Friday, February 18 to 20, 2022
WHERE: Williams Scout Reservation, Cleo Springs
WHO: Scouts BSA Troops and Venture Crews
COST: $15 per Scout and Adult paid by February 9th (will increase $5 starting February 10th)
WHAT: This is a cold-weather campout for Scout Troops and Venture Crews. There will be patrol competitions to demonstrate Scouting skills, a campfire to show off talent, and time for our Scouts to meet other Scouts.
The patrol competitions will take place as a 5-Scout sled race stopping at various stations that will test: Survival skills, Basic and advanced Scouting skills, Pioneering skills, First aid, Leadership and Cooperation. Teams will be assigned a starting station to help reduce backlog at the events. Station assignments will be announced at Saturday morning flags.
Each 5-Scout Team will need to build and bring their own sled. Each Team will have one scout riding and four scouts pulling. Scores will be awarded based on how well each patrol works as a team and demonstrates patrol spirit, how they complete skills, overall time and sled design. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place finishers.
All meals will be provided by individual Troops and Crews. Due to the winterization of camp, NO WATER is available in campsites. Units attending must bring their own.
Saturday night’s campfire will consist of an Award Presentation, Flag Retirement Ceremony, and Order of the Arrow call-out. Each Troop and Crew is requested to come up with a skit or song.
Scouts should be prepared for winter camping and dress accordingly. For more information contact – contact Derek Ratzlaff (580-227-7240).
