Be Prepared for the Unexpected

Whether you're heading to a Scouting America High Adventure Base or planning a backcountry trek, Wilderness First Aid (WFA) provides the knowledge and confidence to respond when professional medical help is more than 30 minutes away.

A current CPR certification is required before attending this course. CPR training is NOT included with this class.

Course Information

Date: February 20 and 21, 2027

Time: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day

Location: Camp Miakonda, Wildlife Center

What You'll Learn

This 16-hour certification course combines classroom instruction with realistic outdoor scenarios to prepare participants for medical emergencies in remote environments.

Participants will learn how to:

• Assess and manage wilderness medical emergencies
• Treat common backcountry injuries and illnesses
• Make decisions when emergency services are delayed
• Lead and care for a group during an emergency
• Practice hands-on skills in outdoor scenarios

This course meets the Wilderness First Aid requirement for participants attending Scouting America High Adventure Bases.

Out-of-Council Participants: $95 (includes WFA handbook and course materials)

Please note:

• Pre-registration and payment are required.
• Registration is limited to 24 participants.
• Cancellations after the registration deadline (February 1) are non-refundable except in emergency circumstances.

Before You Attend

Please come prepared for both indoor and outdoor instruction.

Participants should:

• Dress in weather-appropriate clothing (layers recommended)
• Bring a backpack with practical outdoor items for scenario-based exercises
• Hold a current CPR certification
• Be at least 16 years old (Scouts BSA youth should have already earned the 
• Have a solid understanding of basic first aid skills

Certification

Erie Shores Council is a certified education center of the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) and an official training partner of Scouting America. Upon successful completion, participants will receive Wilderness First Aid certification.
