George Meany Award Celebration Dinner

Event Details

The Boy Scouts of America Pathway to Adventure Council is honored to recongnize Mr. Gary Perinar with the George Meany Award on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 for his service to the community and the working families in our union trades.

Gary Perinar is executive secretary-treasurer (EST) of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters, an organization comprising more than 30,000 skilled men and women building careers in the trades.

Mr. Perinar is a third-generation business representative of the union and a 40-year member of Carpenters Local
174 where he served his apprenticeship. At age 32, Mr. Perinar became a full-time business representative and
later an assistant to the president/EST. He was twice elected as the second vice president of the Regional Council and has served under four ESTs. Mr. Perinar has also served the Regional Council as a delegate for 25 years and held the position of trustee on various committees and boards including health and welfare and pension funds
during this period.

Just as the Boy Scouts and its programs for boys and girls help establish responsible citizenship and nurture youth character development and leadership, the Carpenters under the direction of Mr. Perinar and partnering management indoctrinate and support character and skills development across its diverse membership. The Carpenters and its membership hold deep pride in being A positive force in building communities®, and EST Perinar and organization staff recognize and respect the great role the Boy Scouts of America similarly plays in our communities.

The Apprentice and Training Program of the Carpenters provides four-year apprenticeships across numerous unique crafts and a skill-advancement curriculum that welcomes young people looking to dig in and embark on a career within the carpentry trade. Gary Perinar and the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters understand that union-member households produce many talent-rich, values-driven Scouts, and it is this tradition, camaraderie and career pathway that the Carpenters commit to sustaining.
