Adopting Leadership styles for contemporary, diverse youth in Scouts BSA
Led by Paula Flynn, a licensed professional counselor (LPC), this Seminar is designed to educate volunteers on ways to support young women involved in Scouts BSA. Paula’s clinical experience includes therapy with children, adolescents, adults, and families and is a member of the Barrington Youth & Family Services therapist team.
During this 1 ½ hour seminar the discussion will be focused on the following goals –
- Gain an awareness of the socialization process and gender stereotyping that contributes to common differences between teenage boys and girls development
- Become familiar with stages of adolescent development and how to foster social and emotional development in girls as they search for their identify and place in the world
- Gain an understanding of the unique challenges adolescent girls face and explore how to best respond to their needs in a supportive way
- Learn strategies to promote and inspire leadership, achievement, motivation, and other skills important to character development that can help prepare young women for success
- Examine common biases and concerns that may arise with incorporating adolescent girls into scout programming
We will also have a panel of experienced Scouts BSA male & female leaders join us to help answer your questions.
