Astronomy Merit Badge at Triton College

Members of Scouts BSA can complete many requirements for the Astronomy merit badge at this evening at Triton College.

Participants will have the opportunity to complete many requirements for the Astronomy merit badge through a mix of an immersive planetarium show, classroom instruction, and hands-on telescope observations (weather permitting). Scouts who complete the required prerequisites ahead of time may be able to leave the event with all requirements completed. See the attached flyer for a list of required and recommended prerequsites

The session will take place in the Cernan Earth and Space Center located on the Triton College Campus.

This is a drop off event, but adults may register and attend as well.

Note: The formal program will begin with a planetarium show at 5:30 sharp. You MUST be in the planetarium before the show begins to meet many of the requirements. There is no admittance to the planetarium after the doors close for the show, so arrive early. 

After the planetarium show, there will be pizza and drinks provided, followed by about 1 hour of classroom instruction. Then there will be outdoor observations through telescopes provided by the Chicago Astronomical Society. NOTE: Outdoor viewing depends on the weather. If no stars are visible, parents may pick up their youth at 8:30 instead of 9:30. We will notify registrants of the end time on the date of the event.

The event is limited to 45 scouts.
