Portage Creek District Scouts are encouraged to participate in this exciting event as a way to prove your First Aid skills. Trophies and bragging rights will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place scoring winners!

Scouts will compete in patrols of 4-8 individuals. Troops bringing 1-3 Scouts will be merged into other patrols. Each patrol will participate in three traditional medical scenarios. For each scenario, the judge will describe the scene and medical situation, providing pertinent information as the scenario progresses. These scenarios will utilize “dummies” or mannequins as victims. Scouts will be judged based on medical knowledge, hands-on skills, and their ability to function as a team. Judges will ask Scouts questions related to each scenario and proper responses will count toward their scoring. The competition will also include a skills demonstration station, a skill relay, and medical jeopardy. The skills station will involve demonstration of the following: CPR , Heimlich maneuver, AED use, or epinephrine pen use. The skill relay will test the Scouts ability to perform a medical skill. The chosen skill(s) will not be revealed until the day of the meet. The medical jeopardy section will be a quiz covering topics not addressed in the medical scenarios.

Scenarios are based on the Scouts BSA Handbook & the First Aid Merit Badge book

Each patrol must bring 2 adult leaders for the judges' pool & possibly to help with make-up/moulage.
 

Troops with 1-3 scouts will be added to existing patrols and will function as part of a patrol.
