Prove Your Skills: The Portage Creek First Aid Meet!

Think your patrol has what it takes to handle a medical emergency? It’s time to find out! Join Scouts from across the Portage Creek District for a day of high-stakes competition, teamwork, and—of course—bragging rights.

 The Rewards

The top three scoring patrols will walk away with 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophies and the title of District First Aid Champions. Additionally, the Loyola Emergency Medical Services, The Keeley Center for Emergency Medicine Education And College of DuPage, Homeland Security Training Institute (HSTI) will have special prizes for the meet winners.

 The Competition

Scouts will compete in patrols of 4–8. If your Troop brings 1–3 Scouts, we will merge you into other patrols so everyone can participate.

The meet features four intense sections:

Medical Scenarios: Face three realistic emergencies using mannequins. Judges will grade you on medical knowledge, hands-on skills, and your ability to function as a team under pressure.

Skills Demonstration: Show the judges you’ve mastered the "big four": CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, AED use, and EpiPen administration.

Medical Jeopardy: A rapid-fire quiz covering first aid topics not addressed in the live scenarios.

The Stretcher Relay: To cap off the day, patrols will compete in a fast-paced relay using two staves, a blanket, and a mannequin. It’s a high-energy, educational way to finish the event!

 What Judges Look For

It’s not just about what you know, it’s about how you respond. Judges will provide information as the scene progresses and ask questions to test your depth of knowledge. Clear communication and smooth teamwork are the keys to a winning score.
